Building the Photo Ark (National Geographic Live)

National Geographic >

While health officials manage the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community, the Seattle Symphony has made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining National Geographic Live events this season, including Hidden Wild: Secrets of the Everglades (July 19–21, 2020), From Summit to Sea (August 2–4, 2020) and Building the Photo Ark (August 16–18, 2020). All ticket holders will be notified.

National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore is on a mission to capture portraits of the world’s species before they disappear. With ingenuity, wit and a serious Midwestern work ethic, Sartore has created the Photo Ark project, the largest archive of its kind with more than 9,000 images and counting. Hear about his comical mishaps, endearing encounters and personal stories while documenting a world worth saving.

National Geographic Live brings the top National Geographic photographers, scientists, filmmakers and adventurers to audiences around the world to share their unbelievable behind-the-scenes stories and stunning images and video.

This event is presented by the Seattle Symphony. The orchestra will not perform on this program.

This piece sits perfectly alongside a new work by one of our nations greatest living composers: John Adams’ multiculturally-inspired I Still Dance.

A vivid musical description of love-turned-obsession-turned-ghoulish nightmare, Berlioz' masterpiece positively overflows with raw emotion and unabashed melodrama. Paired with Mozart’s turbulent and stormy Piano Concerto No. 24 and a world premiere by composer-in-residence Reena Esmail, Music Director Thomas Dausgaard kicks off the  Delta | Masterworks season with the kind of satisfying emotional wallop that only symphonic music can provide.
